Posted 31 January 2018. Widespread rainfall totals of 25 to 50mm with isolated falls of 50 to 100mm and storms are forecast across large parts of the state during the next 5 days. The wet weather and winds will also eventually drop temperatures down resulting in much cooler conditions across Southern and Central districts. While it is disappointing seeing the recently brief forecast Tropical Low or weak Cyclones rainfall go to waste in the Coral Sea, there is some hope for relief this week.  

A large area of low pressure over Central inland parts of the state is expected to interact with a burst of moist strong South East to Easterly winds starting on Thursday.  Scattered showers and isolated inland storms along with much cooler strong South East to Easterly winds are forecast across the South East quarter of the state. Temperatures are likely to drop up to 10C than compared with the pervious day with most locations less than 25C in the South East. Initially falls will be light with around 10mm expected.

On Friday the system gains strength across Southern and Central inland districts. Widespread rain areas and storms inland with scattered showers along the South East and Central Coasts. Moderate falls possible inland with 24hr totals of 20 to 40mm across the Warrego & Maranoa, Central West and Central highlands districts. Falls tending lighter along the coast with up to 10mm expected. Again temperatures will be much cooler in the South East while spreading further into Southern inland and Central districts. 

During Saturday the system spreads further North from Southern into Central districts. Widespread rain areas and storms through all Central districts. Moderate to locally heavy falls possible with 24hr totals of 30 to 60mm through the Whitsundays and Central Coast. Moderate falls possible with 24hr totals of 20 to 40mm across the Central West, Central Highlands and Coalfields and Capricornia districts. Scattered showers across Southern and South East districts with lighter falls of 5 to 15mm expected. Some storms expected in the North West and Gulf districts. Again temperatures will be much cooler in the South East, Southern and Central districts.

Then Sunday rain and storm activity continues to move further North into Northern and Central East districts. Moderate to locally heavy falls possible with 24hr totals of 25 to 50mm through the Northern Goldfields, North Tropical Coast, Herbert and Lower Burdekin districts. Moderate falls possible with 24hr totals of 15 to 30mm across the Central Coast and Whitsundays. Lighter falls from showers with up to 15mm across remaining Central and South East districts. Some storms expected in the North West and gulf districts. Cooler temperatures will be focused through Central parts of the state. 

Further ahead on Monday rain and storms will contract to the North Tropical Coast and Peninsula districts.
